Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then, she became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. The year 1981 saw her begin reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She served on an advisory panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy news stories throughout the years, including fiscal reform, the budget, and the Iran Contra affair. Mitchell traveled extensively together with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
